Our ceremony will take place in the Princeton University Chapel, the third largest university chapel in the world. Since 1928 the chapel has served as a gathering place for students of all backgrounds, and for today’s Princeton students it serves to bookend the college experience. During our first days at Princeton in the fall of 2005, we were officially welcomed as members of the Class of 2009 during opening exercises in the chapel. And two days before graduation we celebrated the culmination of our Princeton years at the baccalaureate service in the chapel. Princeton continues to play an important role in our lives, and we are excited to be getting married in a place so emblematic of the university.
Founded in 1930, the Institute for Advanced Study is a center of intellectual inquiry and research nestled in the woods near downtown Princeton. In its history it has served as the academic home of the likes of Albert Einstein, Alan Turing, J. Robert Oppenheimer, and George Kennan. The reception will take place in Simons Hall and the adjacent birch garden, both of which were designed by Princeton-based architect Robert Geddes. Sara’s mom, Arlen, has worked at the Institute for more than 20 years, and is looking forward to sharing her home-away-from-home with her daughter and future son-in-law.
